AI based 3D Metal printing quality forecast tool

The overall objective of the experiment is to develop an AI based 3D metal printing quality forecast tool that predicts possible manufacturing defects on selective laser melting machines.

The project will be implemented as cooperation of a manufacturing SME (TCT Hungary Ltd., Hungary), a DIH (Innoskart DIH (IS DIH), I4MS Ambassador, Hungary) and a technology provider (Thinkspace technologies Ltd., UK).

The project will deliver an AI-based solution/application for the additive manufacturing SME. This will allow them to produce more efficiently, use less raw material and decrease the amount of scrap. In parallel, IS DIH will enhance the AI community building with other DIHs from preferably Vanguard regions. Participation will also allow IS DIH to strengthen its service portfolio offered to SMEs. Metal powder based additive manufacturing, using Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) technology, also known as 3D metal printing or selective laser melting (SLM) is one of the most advanced, innovative manufacturing technologies. Unfortunately there is a big issue with this technology, a real blind spot in the process, that impedes us to have total control of the manufacturing process.
